Job Templates Overview

A job template defines a specific workflow for the Manager, such as transfers, processing, or maintenance tasks. Job templates are organized into job template libraries which are listed on the Jobs > Templates page.

Job templates are comprised of workflow components, which are sets of scripts and properties that execute specific tasks, or process information to be used by other components in job template.

Once a sequence of workflow components is created, the job template can be published and used in the Manager.

Job Template Libraries

A job template library represents a collection of job templates, and are listed in the Manager on the Jobs > Templates page.

Each template library contains one or more job templates that define jobs represented by a sequence of workflow components. Double-click on a template library to open it in the Job Template Canvas.

  • A Protected template library cannot be modified. To create a job using an existing template library, duplicate the library by using Save As.
  • A template library listed as a Published Solution indicates that one or more job templates in the template library are published.

Job Template Canvas

The job template canvas allows you to design, edit and create workflows using workflow components. Each component provides input and output that can link together, creating a job template.

Templates use a start component that triggers a job run. The content or task then is processed by each workflow component in sequence until the job finishes.

To publish a completed template, right-click on the start component and select Publish.

Workflow Components

Workflow components are organized on the job template canvas based on the tasks they perform. All components accept input to populate data and define a job process. If a job requires user input, you can create Prompts for the user to complete when they create a job based on the related template.

For more information about Prompts, see Configuring Workflows.

To link workflow components, click and drag the output handle of one component and connect it to the input handle of another component. By connecting components on the job template canvas, the output of one component can be used as an input to another component, establishing a workflow.

Once workflow components are connected, you must map their inputs and outputs so that the job can process data. Double-click a processing component to open the mapping dialog.

The mapping dialog allows you to connect prompts and output from one component to inputs for another component. To configure additional prompts or inputs for a component, right-click a component and select Edit Component.

Conditions and Error Paths

You can configure workflow steps that run when certain conditions are met. The conditions controlling the workflow can be specified by using the same output with multiple component inputs, which automatically creates an if/else logic flow.

You can also configure workflow steps that run when a job fails, or encounters an error by creating an error path. To create an error path, by right-click on a path and select Error Path.

You can also configure a job template to pause a job when a failure occurs.

Grouping

Job components can be collected within a group or iteration group to address complex data transfers. If workflow components are grouped, they can be configured to run in a sequence or concurrently, specify a path type, or associate commands and conditions within the grouping.
